Principal's Message

Vanway Elementary was originally built in 1961. Vanway continues to be a center of its community. It has grown from the original little red school house to a vibrant community of over 300 students and 22 staff members. Students come from suburban, semi-rural and rural areas and include a spectrum of socio-economic backgrounds. While the majority of students live within walking distance, there are approximately 100 bus students. The school serves the community that ranges from Westmount Dr.to Blackwater Road along Highway 16 West.

The Parent Advisory is very active, constantly supporting school initiatives. The ample school grounds are well developed with a blacktop area, large playing field, two swing sets and two adventure playgrounds. Vanway has an outdoor learning space that was a generous donation by Mrs. Pam Shelest's family. Mrs. Shelest was a long time Vanway Kindergarten teacher who passed away in 2016.   The PAC continues to fundraise in order to replace and expand the playgrounds. Play structures were built in 2007 and 2010. Benches were added by the PAC in 2012. Fields, playgrounds and treed areas make Vanway school grounds an enjoyable, welcoming place. The PAC strongly supports the school through fund raising activities such as the hot lunch and fruits and vegetables programs, and is integral to school decision-making.

Vanway Elementary School promotes the intellectual, physical, emotional, artistic and social growth of each student within a safe, healthy, respectful and caring community.
